OHJA Medal Finals
OHJA Medal classes are for equitation riders who seek to compete at the highest level within their respective divisions (2’6”, 3’, 3’3”, and 3’6”). Riders who qualify by attaining enough points throughout the year are eligible to compete in the OHJA Medals Finals competition that takes place at the end of each horse show season. Medal Finals allow riders to apply their riding skills and test their horsemanship knowledge in this competitive program.
Medal Classes
OHJA Foundation Medal: Fence height not to exceed 2’3”.
OHJA Mini Medal: Fence height not to exceed 2’6”.
OHJA Children's Medal: Fence height not to exceed 3'.
OHJA Adult Amateur Medal: Fence height not to exceed 3'.
OHJA Low Junior/Senior Medal: Fence height 3’3”.
OHJA Junior/Senior Medal: Fence height 3'6".
Year-End Medal Championships: High-Point awards will be given to the rider accumulating the largest number of OHJA medal points at each Medal height (e.g., Foundation, Mini, Child/Adult, etc.). Points will begin accruing after Medal Finals and accrue through the last show held prior to the show hosting Medal Finals. The Board reserves the right to combine or split divisions. Points accumulated as follows: (a) 1st – 10 points; (b) 2nd – 6 points; (c) 3rd – 4 points; (d) 4th –2points; (e) 5th –1points; and (f) 6th – 1⁄2 point.

Medal Finals Competition
The OHJA Medal Finals competition is hosted each year near the end of the horse show season. In addition to the jumping competition, all Medal Finals participants must complete a written test, the results of which count toward the final score of each competitor. Preparation for the Medal Finals is crucial to success! There is a written portion to the finals. Please review the section on MEDAL Finals Exams below.
The OHJA Medal Finals is one of OHJA’s major fundraising events. Members are encouraged to sponsor or donate to support the Medal Finals competition, and to encourage outside sponsorship from businesses that support Oregon’s hunter/jumper community.

Medal Finals Exams
In addition to the jumping competition, all Medal Finals participants must complete a written test, the results of which will count toward for ten (10) points toward the final score of each competitor.
Riders will be tested for knowledge from practical experience, plus from the reference materials below:
Local System Medal Finals Grant (Deadline - July 15, 2025)
The Local System Medal Finals Grant provides financial assistance to Local System members who wish to compete in the OHJA Medal Finals. For consideration of monies to be awarded, the applying junior or amateur rider must have actively participated in the fundraising activities that current year and must make a formal application to the OHJA Board.

OHJA JUMPER MEDAL
OHJA Jumper Medal
Low Jumper Medal
1. OHJA Low Jumper Medal fence height is .70m and .80m. No oxers in the Low Jumper Medal. Class to be held with .70m riders competing at their height and .80m riders competing at their height. Following the flat phase, which is held at the judge’s discretion, the class shall be pinned as a combined class.
2. Cross Entry Restrictions: Riders may not enter a class at 1m or higher at that show.
3. Low Jumper Medal Final will be held at .75m and written test and flat phase is required for Medal Final.
High Jumper Medal

OHJA High Jumper Medal fence height is .90m and 1.0m. Oxers may have a maximum
spread of their respective height. Class to be held with .90m riders competing at their height and 1.0m riders competing at their height. Following the flat phase, which is held at the judge’s discretion, the class shall be pinned as a combined class.

Cross Entry Restrictions: Riders may not enter a class at 1.10m or higher at that show.

High Jumper Medal Final will be held at .95m and written test and flat phase is required for Medal Final.
The OHJA Jumper Medal must be conducted over jumper fences. OHJA Jumper Medal shall be judged on the rider’s equitation style, technical merit, judgment and execution of an efficient, time saving pace and track. One (1) point will be subtracted from the rider’s score for each commenced second over the time allowed and four (4) points will be deducted for each knockdown on course. Two refusals will incur elimination. Jumper tack must be in accordance with the USEF Rule JP 111, with the exception that no draw reins or German martingales are allowed. At the judge’s discretion, there may be a flat phase following the over fences round.
