2009 Junior Sportsman of the Year - Olivia MorganDear OHJA, A fellow coworker and I would like to nominate one of the girls from our barn for the Junior Sportsmanship Award. This young lady showed tremendous maturity when her fancy junior hunter came up lame with a mysterious illness in early spring 2009. She still came to lessons and out to hack even though we only had school horses to offer her. Not many kids would take this negative situation and turn it into a positive. Her commitment to becoming a better rider only grew stronger the longer her horse was not rideable. As things got worse with her beautiful mare, she maintained her poise and positive attitude, always asking for extra horses to ride and to come help at shows. She showed one of our fun but not-so-fancy school horses through the summer and kept a smile on her face. She always had words of encouragement for her peers at the shows even though it must have been hard to see them on their fancy horses. She appreciated the learning experience for what it was and took the opportunity to further develop her horsemanship. She displayed impeccable work ethic and determination to improve her skills by the time her horse had recovered. The months went by without a cure for her horse. Her condition worsened and ultimately we had to put her down. Olivia Morgan never showed how hard it must have been to see her horse, Breakfast at Tiffany's, so sick. She never used it as an excuse or lost sight of her goals. She continues to come out to the barn and ride on a regular basis with the same positive attitude. With the maturity she has shown over the past year she has earned the respect of numerous professionals, amateurs and juniors alike. Heather, Tess and the Cornerstone family want Olivia to know how much we care about her and appreciate having her in our lives. |
